I always conclude my podcast interviews with this question: "What are your biggest life lessons from bodybuilding?" Every time, I receive slightly different answers, and it's so intriguing to hear everyone's unique insights and takeaways on this matter. I thought I would write a blog article on some of my most significant lessons, which may hold value for you:
1. If you're seeking to make a change, you're going to have to face some degree of challenge. Whether it's a physical body transformation, increasing your income, or expanding your knowledge, you will always encounter challenges and ultimately undergo personal growth. Prep has been one of the most mentally and physically demanding undertakings in my life. However, persistently pushing my boundaries has sculpted the physique I possess today. Now, I embrace challenges knowing they are molding me into a more resilient individual, both physically and mentally, and ultimately enriching my life. It doesn't have to be a bodybuilding prep; any challenge that is relevant to you can serve the same purpose. It could be pursuing a new job role, running a 5km or half marathon. Keep seeking challenges and observe how you evolve as a person!
2. Break down your own boundaries. I've encountered this numerous times in my life, and I've witnessed it with many clients who begin their journey with me. They impose limitations on what they believe they can achieve, often stemming from preconceived notions that may have originated in childhood. For instance, thinking, "I've never been the smart one in the family." Stop placing boundaries on your potential, because you are capable of much more. The only person who can dismantle these limitations is you. I know it might sound cliché, but it's undeniably true. Once you shatter a preconceived boundary in your mind and validate it through your results, you'll begin to build confidence. Watch how you thrive in all aspects of your life. Starting can be tough, but as mentioned earlier, it ties back to the previous point: you must confront challenges to break down barriers.
3. Never give up, and embrace failures. Often, the outcome you seek is just around the corner, but some people never reach it because they give up at the last moment. There are no true failures, only lessons and insights that propel you to the next level. I like to liken it to a video game: you keep striving to defeat that boss, you may stumble several times, but eventually, you will emerge victorious. Apply this principle to any formidable endeavor in your life. Even if you encounter multiple setbacks, they will lead you to discover your true path in life.
4. Live in the moment. The preceding points have all focused on hard work and growth, but at certain junctures in your life, it's crucial to sit back, unwind, and reflect on how far you've come. I experience a surge of euphoria when I have these moments, where I tangibly feel the rewards of enduring through tough times and challenges.
5. Seek help. I can't emphasize enough how vital this is. There is always someone who possesses slightly more knowledge and can offer assistance. Reach out and learn, as this is what will ultimately facilitate your growth. You can't assign a value to self-development if it propels you toward a more fulfilling life and helps you reach your desired destination.
I hope many of you can relate to these lessons and reflections. If you require assistance in elevating your mindset and physique, feel free to drop me a message on Instagram.
